Magnitude 4.7 earthquake rattles Armenia

PanARMENIAN.Net - An earthquake of magnitude 4.7 occurred 8 km southeast of Yerevan, Armenia on Saturday, February 13, the country's Ministry for Emergency Situations reported.

The quake hit at a depth of 10 km beneath the epicenter near Yerevan at 3:29 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report. An international monitoring service identified a second report from the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) which listed the quake at magnitude 4.6.

Based on incoming information, the quake was widely felt by almost everyone in the area of the epicenter. Images spreading on social media showed minor damage in Yerevan, the capital.

A magnitude 4.7 and magnitude 3.7 tremors hit Armenia a week earlier and were followed by several aftershocks in the next several days.
