Armenian activists in Javakhk released

PanARMENIAN.Net - Director of Akhaltsikhe youth center Grigor Minasyan and head of Charles Aznavour benevolent organization Sergei Hakobjanyan were released on March 6 evening.

Details of Grigor Minasyan and Sergei Hakobjanyan's discharge are not known yet.

A source said that in a March 6 trial, the two were handed a 1-year suspended sentence and immediately released. According to another source, the court decreed to substitute 2-month arrest by a 2000 lari fine.

Senior Georgian officials have numerously stated that accusations against the arrested activists are "grounded" and it's hard to believe that authorities made a matter of conscience, bagin.info reports.

Grigory Minasyan and Sargis Hakobjanyan were detained in Samtskhe Javakheti on January 22, 2009.

They were charged in compliance with articles 18.1, 223.1 and 314 (formation of illegal armed unit and spying) of the Georgian Penal Code.
