Armenia wins 23 medals at European Weightlifting Championships

PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenia won 23 medals – 5 gold, 9 silver and 9 bronze – at the 2021 European Weightlifting Championships, held in Moscow between April 3 and 11.

Only Russia achieved slightly better results with 24 medals overall.

Superheavyweight lifter Gor Minasyan on Sunday, April 11 lifted a total of 464 kg to become the vice champion, while Varazdat Lalayan competing in the same weight category snatched bronze by raising 464 kg above his head in both the snatch and clean and jerk events of the championships.

Samvel Gasparyan and Arsen Martirosyan (102 kg), meanwhile, secured the first and second spots, respectively, while Simon Martirosyan, took gold in the snatch event of the 109 kg weight category,

Karen Avagyan earlier won gold, Hakob Mkrtchyan and Andranik Karapetyan took bronze, while Rafik Harutyunyan secured a bronze medal in the clean and jerk event only. In the women's team, meanwhile, Liana Gyurjyan won bronze, while Izabella Yaylyan won silver in the snatch event.
