Opposition alliance asks Macron to consider sending peacekeepers to ArmeniaApril 29, 2021 - 11:20 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - An opposition political alliance in Armenia has called on French President Emmanuel Macron to consider deploying a French or international peacekeeping contingent in the southern province of Syunik. The National Democratic Pole (also known as the National Democratic Alliance or the National Democratic Party) was created by the Sasna Tsrer Pan-Armenian Party, the European Party of Armenia, as well as, several independent politicians. The alliance sent a letter to Macron, maintaining that Russia, Turkey and Azerbaijan are trying to "alienate" the province of Syunik, in order to connect Turkey to Azerbaijan and Central Asia, "all at the expense of Armenian territories and interests". "The project is aimed at eliminating the border between Armenia and Iran, thus isolating and making our state unviable for good," the letter reads. According to the alliance, the deployment of a French or international peacekeeping mission in Syunik would help protect Armenia's statehood and territorial integrity.
