Armenia expects Iran's assistance in ending Azerbaijan's incursion

PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenia expects Iran's assistance in ending Azerbaijan's incursion into its territory and Baku's efforts to destabilize the region, Yerevan's ambassador to Tehran Artashes Toumanian said at a meeting with Mohammad Eslami, the Minister of Roads and Urban Developments of the Islamic Republic, on Sunday, May 16.

Toumanian provided details from the province of Syunik where a group of Azerbaijani troops are still stationed. Negotiations for their withdrawal are ongoing.

Both the Armenian ambassador and the Iranian Minister reaffirmed the need to preserve the territorial integrity of countries and the security of borders.

On the morning of May 12, the armed forces of Azerbaijan violated the border of Armenia in the southern province of Syunik, advancing 3.5 kilometers and surrounding Sev Lake, which is situated on the border between the two countries but is predominantly a part of Armenia. On May 13, the Azerbaijani military committed more border violations against Armenia, advancing near Vardenis (Gegharkunik province) and Sisian (Syunik province).

They also discussed the establishment of the Persian Gulf-Black Sea international transit corridor, which Esmali said will contribute to both economic development and regional security.

Ambassador Tumanian stressed the need to strengthen the North-South transport corridor, noting that this is in the interests of all countries involved in the program and will help curb regional instability.
