Armenia, Iran discuss regional peace amid Azerbaijan's provocations![]() May 24, 2021 - 13:33 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Acting Armenian Foreign Minister Ara Aivazian met on Monday, May 24 with Iranian Ambassador to Yerevan Abbas Badakhshan Zohouri to discuss peace and security in the region. The press service of the Armenian Foreign Ministry said the sides weighed in on the situation on the borders of Armenia, amid Azerbaijan's ongoing provocations. Aivazian stressed the need for the immediate and unconditional withdrawal of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces from the territory of the Republic of Armenia. They also exchanged views on a number of issues on the Armenian-Iranian agenda, paying special attention to the implementation of agreements reached during the visits of top delegations of both countries. On the morning of May 12, the armed forces of Azerbaijan violated the border of Armenia in the southern province of Syunik, advancing 3.5 kilometers and surrounding Sev Lake, which is situated on the border between the two countries but is predominantly a part of Armenia. On May 13, the Azerbaijani military committed more border violations against Armenia, advancing near Vardenis (Gegharkunik province) and Sisian (Syunik province). ![]() ![]() Grigoryan added that the situation around the world and particularly in the region is very difficult. The Armenian Defense Ministry has denied Azerbaijan's accusations of violating the ceasefire.
