Karabakh war: Families of 500 missing receiving compensationsMay 27, 2021 - 16:54 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - The families of about 500 people who are still missing after the 44-day war in Nagorno-Karabakh are receiving compensation from the state, Defense Ministry representative Aleksandr Avetisyan said on Thursday, May 27. Avetisyan told a press conference that the number is dropping as the remains of some of the missing have in fact been recovered, and the lists are being revised every day. The Defense Ministry representative added that the bodies of around 160 servicemen have been identified through DNA analysis but the families have yet to submit applications for organizing the funerals. According to him, every month the families receive AMD 300,000 each ($575) from funds provided by Hayastan All-Armenian Fund. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Russian and Azerbaijani Presidents Vladimir Putin and Ilham Aliyev on November 9 signed a statement to end the war in Karabakh after almost 45 days. Under the deal, the Armenian side has returned all the seven regions surrounding Nagorno-Karabakh, having lost a part of Karabakh itself in hostilities.
