Armenia, Russia discuss ways to realize agreements reached in Moscow![]() May 31, 2021 - 15:03 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenian and Russian defense chiefs Vagharshak Harutyunyan and Sergei Shoigu discussed tensions on the border between Armenia and Azerbaijan over the phone on Monday, May 31. On the morning of May 12, the armed forces of Azerbaijan violated the border of Armenia in the southern province of Syunik, advancing 3.5 kilometers and surrounding Sev Lake, which is situated on the border between the two countries but is predominantly a part of Armenia. On May 13, the Azerbaijani military committed more border violations against Armenia, advancing near Vardenis (Gegharkunik province) and Sisian (Syunik province). One Armenian serviceman was killed in Azerbaijan’s shooting on May 25, while six others were captured on May 27. The Armenian Defense Ministry said on Monday that Harutyunyan and Shoigu weighed in on the border situation and the ways to implement the agreements reached during their meeting in Moscow last week. The two also focused on reforms currently underway in the Armenian army, the operation of the Russian peacekeeping contingent in Nagorno-Karabakh, as well as issues of regional security. Grigoryan added that the situation around the world and particularly in the region is very difficult. The Armenian Defense Ministry has denied Azerbaijan's accusations of violating the ceasefire. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan took to social media to thank his Lithuanian counterpart for the contribution.
