Azerbaijan starts using Armenia's airspace for civilian flights

PanARMENIAN.Net - Azerbaijan has begun to use the airspace of Armenia for domestic passenger flights to Nakhijevan, Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) said in a statement on Wednesday, October 6, according to RIA Novosti.

"This step demonstrates Azerbaijan's resolute readiness to unblock transport communications in the region, which meets the interests of all neighboring countries," the statement said.

The airline noted that changing the Baku-Nakhijevan-Baku route will help reduce the flight time and fuel consumption.

Azerbaijan unleashed a large-scale war against Nagorno-Karabakh on September 27, 2020, which left thousands dead and injured, while tens of thousands of others remained homeless. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Russian and Azerbaijani Presidents Vladimir Putin and Ilham Aliyev on November 9 signed a statement to end the war in Karabakh after almost 45 days. Under the deal, the Armenian side returned all the seven regions surrounding Nagorno-Karabakh, having lost a part of Karabakh itself in hostilities.
