Russian peacekeepers accompany Armenian pilgrims to Amaras

PanARMENIAN.Net - More than 50 pilgrims, accompanied by Russian peacekeepers, have visited the Armenian monastery of Amaras, which is situated close to the new contact line between Nagorno-Karabakh and Azerbaijan, the Russian Defense Ministry reports.

The peacekeepers ensured the safety of the pilgrims to the site of worship which holds a special place in the hearts of Armenians worldwide.

"To preserve this historical and cultural treasure, the Russian servicemen constantly patrol the territory of the monastery," said Sergei Kalinin, a spokesman for the Russian peacekeeping contingent.

Russian peacekeepers also used to accompany Armenian pilgrims to the medieval Armenian monastery of Dadivank, which came under Azerbaijan's control following the 44-day war in Karabakh in fall 2020. The site is currently unavailable to Armenian believers.
