Armenia, France discuss "privileged" ties, Karabakh conflict

PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenian and French Foreign Ministers Ararat Mirzoyan and Jean-Yves Le Drian met in Paris on Wednesday, November 10 and discussed the "privileged" relations between Yerevan and Paris and agreed to deepen ties, according to a statement from the Armenian Foreign Ministers.

The foreign policy chiefs of the two countries discussed a number of issues related to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. Mirzoyan stressed that a comprehensive solution to the conflict is possible only through peaceful negotiations within the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairmanship.

The two also weighed in on humanitarian issues emerged after the 44-day war. The Armenian Foreign Minister stressed the need for the unconditional repatriation of the remaining Armenian prisoners of war, as well as the importance of preserving the Armenian historical, cultural and religious heritage in territories of Artsakh (Karabakh) currently under Azerbaijani control.

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Russian and Azerbaijani Presidents Vladimir Putin and Ilham Aliyev on November 9, 2020 signed a statement to end the war in Karabakh after almost 45 days. Under the deal, the Armenian side returned all the seven regions surrounding Nagorno-Karabakh, having lost a part of Karabakh itself in hostilities.
