Azerbaijan rejects Armenia's proposals on de-escalation: Mirzoyan

PanARMENIAN.Net - Azerbaijan has "reacted negatively" to Armenia's latest proposals aimed at de-escalating the situation on the border, Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan said Thursday, February 3.

Said proposal, which is a package of measures aimed at de-escalating the situation on the border, reducing tensions, increasing the level of security and stability in the region, was sent to Russia, and through Russia to Azerbaijan earlier in January.

According to Mirzoyan, however, the process continues as some of the earlier proposals have been unacceptable for Yerevan. Armenia is now discussing with Azerbaijan and Russia the creation of security mechanisms on the line of contact, the Foreign Minister said.

"Armenia remains true to its obligations and is ready to create a joint delimitation commission, which was agreed at the meeting of the heads of Armenia, Russia and Azerbaijan in Sochi," Mirzoyan noted.

"Now we are discussing with the Azerbaijani and Russian sides those means that will lead to the creation of security and stability mechanisms on the line of contact. I have already said that various proposals have been submitted. Negotiations are ongoing," Mirzoyan said.
