  12th century khachkars discovered near Stepanakert February 4, 2022 - 13:53 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Khachkars dating back to the 12th century have been discovered near Stepanakert, Nagorno-Karabakh's capital, according to Artsakh Monuments, the Service for the Protection Of Historical Environment. A khachkar, also known as an Armenian cross-stone, is a carved, memorial stele bearing a cross, and often with additional motifs such as rosettes, interlaces, and botanical motifs. Khachkars are characteristic of Medieval Christian Armenian art. A resident of Stepanakert, David Harutyunyan, found the large khachkars in a forest near Stepanakert and reported to the authorities. When the employees of the State Service visited the scene, they found the previously unregistered khachkars.   Top stories Six total incidents have burned 19 old-growth trees.
