EU looks to increase gas supply from Azerbaijan

PanARMENIAN.Net - European Union's Energy Commissioner Kadri Simson met with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev on February 4 to discuss ramping up gas supplies, RFE/RL reports.

"We want the volume of gas exported from Azerbaijan to Europe to reach 10 billion cubic meters," Simson said at a press conference after the talks.

Such an increase is important "against the backdrop of shortages and rising prices in the energy market," she said.

Officials from other European countries, Great Britain, and the United States were also part of Simson's delegation.

Simson and Aliyev met at the eighth ministerial meeting of the Southern Gas Corridor, a route bringing gas from the Caspian Sea to Europe. Aliyev said Azerbaijan's proven gas reserves are 2.6 trillion cubic meters and the largest field is Shah Deniz.
