Putin takes credit for containing Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict

PanARMENIAN.Net - The conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan has been contained including through the influence of Russia, President Vladimir Putin told reporters on the sidelines of the SCO Summit in Samarkand, RIA Novosti reports.

"We regret this (the conflict - ed.) and, of course, the victims. In particular, and primarily through the influence of Russia, this conflict was contained, and I hope this will continue to be the case," Putin said.

Putin also maintained that the "incident" on the border between Armenia and Azerbaijan has nothing to do with Nagorno-Karabakh.

The Armenian Defense Ministry said on Saturday, September 17 morning that there was no change in the situation on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border. The latest round of fighting erupted in the wee hours of September 13, when Azerbaijan launched a large-scale offensive along the border, also targeting civilian settlements deep behind the frontline. At least 135 people were killed in the aggression from the Armenian side.
