U.S. Embassy issues security alert in Armenia![]() September 23, 2022 - 17:58 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - The U.S. Embassy in Yerevan on Friday, September 23 issued a fresh Security alert, urging its citizens to exercise increased caution in Armenia due to armed conflict. Under regulations, U.S. Embassy employees and their families are “prohibited from any non-essential travel” to the following locations: - Tavush region along the M4 highway north of Ijevan and all areas eastward, - Gegharkunik region east of Lake Sevan, - Gegharkunik region south of Lake Sevan and east of the M10 highway, - Yeraskh village in Ararat region, - Vayots Dzor region, east of Yeghegnadzor, - Syunik region. Travel to Nagorno-Karabakh continues to be prohibited. The advisory also urges U.S. citizens to monitor local media for updates, follow the Embassy on social media and prepare a contingency plan for emergency situations. The latest round of fighting between Armenia and Azerbaijan began in the wee hours of September 13, when the Azerbaijani military attacked Armenian posts and shelled Armenian settlements both on the border and deep behind the frontline. At least 207 people are dead or missing as a result, the Security Council of Armenia said on Monday. ![]() ![]() As a result of floods in Armenia’s northern Lori and Tavush provinces, 17 bridges, including five large ones, have collapsed.
