"ONE SHOULD NOT INTRUDE ON VARIOUS POLEMICS," RUSSIAN DIPLOMAT NOTED SPEAKING OF "PARISIAN PRINCIPLES"June 28, 2002 - 19:59 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - "We have discussed different versions of how to end the conflict, which has, unfortunately, persisted in the Transcaucasia for too long." OSCE Minsk Group Russian co-chair Nikolay Gribkov came out with such a statement upon the completion of his meeting with the Azeri President in Istanbul. In Gribkov's words, the co-chairs' decision to meet with the Azeri and Armenian leaders is conditioned by the fact that they had last met with the Presidents rather long - three months and a half ago. It is a rather long period of time, Gribkov noted, adding that it was necessary to refresh some ideas. "We consider it to be favorable practice, which needs to be continued, as without constant replenishment with good advice and recommendations of the heads of the two states it would be hard for us to advance," - the Russian diplomat noted. In relation to Heydar Aliyev's recent statements concerning the "Parisian principles," Gribkov noted: "One should not intrude on various polemics. We proceed from the fact that at present the two Presidents carry out intensive work, which, maybe, is not always visible. It is done to approximate the political solution of the Nagorno Karabakh problem," - Gribkov stressed. At the same time he found it hard to answer the question whether the coming presidential elections in Armenia and Azerbaijan could hamper the conflict settlement in the near future. Regarding the possible date of the new meeting of the two Presidents, the co-chair recommended addressing that question to the heads of the states themselves.
