French diplomat: Parliament resolutions don’t reflect Paris’ official stance

PanARMENIAN.Net - The resolutions of the chambers of the French Parliament calling for the imposition of sanctions against Azerbaijan do not reflect the official stance of Paris, a representative of the French Foreign Ministry told reporters on Wednesday, November 30.

“This initiative of the parliamentarians is not the official position of the French government and was adopted completely independently," the diplomat said.

According to him, the position of the French government is well known. He recalled Foreign Minister Catherine Colonna's statements that "France will continue to encourage the parties to move forward in the negotiations to seize the opportunity to achieve peace."

The French National Assembly on Wednesday adopted a resolution demanding sanctions against Azerbaijan, the press service of Yerevan’s embassy in Paris reports. The resolution calls for the release of all Armenian prisoners of war without any preconditions and suggests that the French government consider the possibility of imposing targeted sanctions should Azerbaijan’s invasion and occupation of Armenian territories continue.
