Karabakh President briefs Paris mayor on humanitarian catastrophe

PanARMENIAN.Net - Artsakh (Nagorno Karabakh) President Arayik Harutyunyan had a telephone conversation with Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo on Tuesday, January 24, Harutyunyan himself revealed.

The two mainly focused on the situation in Nagorno Karabakh amid Azerbaijan’s blockade of the Lachin Corridor.

“I weighed in on the causes and consequences of the humanitarian catastrophe in detail, and the clear assessments and actions by the international community necessary for overcoming [the situation],” Harutyunyan said.

“Anne Hidalgo expressed her solidarity and support to the people of Artsakh, assuring that they will increase their consistent efforts aimed at defusing the situation.”

Since December 12, the sole road connecting Nagorno Karabakh to Armenia - the Lachin Corridor - has been blocked by self-described Azerbaijani environmentalists. Karabakh residents have reported food and fuel shortages, while hospital patients don't have access to essential medicines, with only a handful allowed transfer to facilities in Armenia proper.
