Former NATO chief to visit Armenian regions affected by Azerbaijan’s incursionsMarch 14, 2023 - 13:33 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Former NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen will travel to the town of Jermuk which was targeted by the Azerbaijani military in the fall of 2022. The latest round of fighting between the two countries began in the wee hours of September 13, 2022 when the Azerbaijani military attacked Armenian posts and shelled Armenian settlements both on the border and deep behind the frontline. More than 200 people are dead or missing as a result, the Security Council of Armenia said several days after the attack. Rasmussen has arrived in Armenia for a two-day and has already met with Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and other leading public officials. According to a statement from Rasmussen Global, the former NATO Secretary General will also meet with figures from civil society and visit the Armenian regions most affected by the ongoing incursions by neighbouring Azerbaijan. “The visit aims to raise awareness of the humanitarian crisis caused by the blockade of the Lachin corridor, the only road connecting Nagorno-Karabakh with Armenia, and the outside world,” the statement reads.
