German Chancellor stresses security of Karabakh people for settlement

PanARMENIAN.Net - German Chancellor Olaf Scholz discussed the Nagorno Karabakh conflict with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev in Berlin on Tuesday, March 14.

Our common goal must be to quickly bring this conflict to a lasting and sustainable solution for the benefit of the people in areas surrounding Karabakh,” Scholz said, TASS reports.

“A peaceful settlement of the conflict should be carried out on the basis of the principle of the territorial integrity of Armenia and Azerbaijan. This includes the security of the population in Karabakh."

Scholz added that Germany is ready to provide support in said process.

Since December 12, the sole road connecting Nagorno Karabakh to Armenia - the Lachin Corridor - has been blocked by self-described Azerbaijani environmentalists. Karabakh residents have reported food and fuel shortages, while hospital patients don't have access to essential medicines, with only a handful allowed transfer to facilities in Armenia proper.
