Swedish MPs condemn Azerbaijan’s aggression against Armenia![]() April 14, 2023 - 13:45 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - The Sweden-Armenia Friendship Group of the Swedish Riksdag and members of the Swedish delegations to PACE and OSCE-PA have released a statement regarding Azerbaijan's latest aggression against Armenia. On April 11, in the territory of the village of Tegh in Armenia’s Syunik province, a group of servicemen of the Azerbaijani armed forces approached the Armenian military under the pretext of clarification of positions on the border, provoked and opened fire in the direction of the Armenian troops and positions. The servicemen of the Armenian forces took retaliatory measures to defend the sovereign territory of the country. The Armenian Defense Ministry said later in the day that four Armenian soldiers were killed and six wounded in the attack. “These aggressive actions of the Azerbaijani side have been carried out despite the readiness to resolve the existing problems through constructive negotiations expressed by the Armenian side earlier,” the statement from the Swedish lawmakers said. “The provocation carried out by Azerbaijan is another encroachment on the territorial integrity of the Republic of Armenia. This policy of Azerbaijan is not new, it is the continuation of the attacks carried out against the Republic of Armenia in May and November 2021, as well as in September 2022, as a result of which Azerbaijan occupied sovereign territories of Armenia. “It should be stated that the use of force and the threat of use of force, should not be an alternative for Azerbaijan to significantly destabilize the situation in the region and undermine the efforts of mediating partners to continue peace negotiations. “We, the undersigned Members of the Sweden-Armenia Friendship Group of the Swedish Riksdag and members of the Swedish delegations to PACE and OSCE-PA, call on the international community, including all partners interested in stability and peace in the region, to condemn Azerbaijan’s aggressive actions through targeted statements and clear steps and prevent further escalation of the situation by Azerbaijan.” ![]() ![]() Grigoryan added that the situation around the world and particularly in the region is very difficult. The Armenian Defense Ministry has denied Azerbaijan's accusations of violating the ceasefire. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan took to social media to thank his Lithuanian counterpart for the contribution. President of the Armenian parliament Alen Simonyan met with the Speaker of the Azerbaijani Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova. ![]() ![]() Partner news | ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
