Foreign Ministry: No Armenians injured in Sudan unrest

PanARMENIAN.Net - No Armenians have been injured during the clashes in Sudan, Spokesperson for the Armenian Foreign Ministry Ani Badalyan told Sputnik Armenia.

"The diplomatic mission of Armenia is in constant contact with the representatives of the small Armenian community living in Sudan. During the recent events in Khartoum, the Armenians have not been injured, neither has the Armenian church," Badalyan said.

The lives of Armenian citizens working in Sudan are also not in danger, she added.

Earlier, the primate of the Egyptian Diocese (which also includes Ethiopia, Sudan, South Africa) of the Armenian Apostolic Church, Bishop Ashot Mnatsakanyan, said that the community used to number 1,500 people, but today only 15-20 Armenians live in the country.

Fighting between the country’s armed forces and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) is in its fourth day in Khartoum both near the army command and the presidential palace, and close to two RSF bases to the north and west of the capital, CNN says.

At least 270 people have been killed and more than 2,600 injured in the unrest, according to the World Health Organization (WHO) officials citing Sudan’s Ministry of Health Emergency Operations Center.
