Armenian Defense Minister meets with new Russian peacekeeping commander![]() April 28, 2023 - 16:36 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenian Defense Minister Suren Papikyan met with the newly appointed commander of the Russian peacekeeping forces deployed in Nagorno-Karabakh, Colonel-General Alexander Lentsov, on Friday, April 28. The meeting was attended by Russian Ambassador to Yerevan Sergey Kopyrkin, Defense Attaché of the Russian Embassy Colonel Igor Shcherbakov and former commander of the Russian peacekeeping forces in Nagorno-Karabakh, Major General Andrey Volkov. According to a statement from the Defense Ministry, the parties discussed the operational situation around Nagorno-Karabakh and in the zone of responsibility of the peacekeeping contingent and the existing problems, as well as a number of issues aimed at increasing the effectiveness of the Russian peacekeeping mission in Nagorno-Karabakh. The Minister of Defense stressed the need to strictly implement all the provisions of the tripartite statement of November 9, 2020 and the importance of efforts aimed at the speedy unblocking of the Lachin corridor. ![]() ![]() Grigoryan added that the situation around the world and particularly in the region is very difficult. The Armenian Defense Ministry has denied Azerbaijan's accusations of violating the ceasefire.
