De Waal: No peace for Armenia without agreement on Karabakh

PanARMENIAN.Net - British journalist and writer on the Caucasus Thomas de Waal does not think that there will be great peace with Azerbaijan from the Armenian point of view if there is no separate agreement regarding the Armenians of Nagorno Karabakh.

According to him, the rights and protection of Karabakh Armenians should be addressed.

"[President of the European Council]Charles Michel spoke about a certain international presence in Karabakh. It is not clear what he means. I think that this is the most important issue and it has always been the most important issue in the context of the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict," he said in an interview with Pastinfo.

Michel said after a meeting with the Armenian and Azerbaijani leaders in mid-May that the sides continued exchanges on the issue of the rights and security of Armenians living in the former Nagorno Karabakh Autonomous Oblast. “I encouraged Azerbaijan to engage in developing a positive agenda with the aim of guaranteeing the rights and security of this population, in close cooperation with the international community. I also raised the need for a transparent and constructive dialogue between Baku and this population,” he said back then.
