Karabakh: Infant with acute encephalitis trapped in Baku’s blockade

PanARMENIAN.Net - A one-year-old child with acute hemorrhagic encephalomyelitis needs to be transferred to Armenia for urgent care but due to Azerbaijan’s blockade of Nagorno Karabakh the child is deprived of necessary medical assistance.

Russian Ambassador to Armenia Sergey Kopyrkin was summoned to the Armenian Foreign Ministry on June 16 after an attempt by the Azerbaijani forces, accompanied by Russian peacekeepers, to raise an Azerbaijani flag over Armenian territory, which left one Armenian border guard injured. Following the incident, Azerbaijan completely blockaded Karabakh.

According to a report from the Health Ministry of Nagorno Karabakh, about 190 patients with various diagnoses are waiting for an opportunity to be transferred to medical institutions in Armenia to receive appropriate medical care.

Health authorities said 33 children are receiving inpatient treatment, one of them is in serious condition. 7 adult patients out of a total of 96 are in the intensive care unit, 4 of them in critical condition.
