EU: Aghdam road should complement Karabakh corridor

PanARMENIAN.Net - The European Union is working on a solution that guarantees the rights and security of the people of Nagorno-Karabakh so that people can feel safe in their homes, EU Special Envoy for the South Caucasus, Toivo Klaar, said in an interview to Alpha News.

"Meetings were held with various participants in the EU aimed at resolving the situation. I am not saying that it is a simple process, but we are fully and absolutely involved in the process of finding solutions to the situation with various international partners," Klaar said.

"We are working on a solution that will guarantee the rights and safety of the people of Nagorno Karabakh, so that people feel safe in their homes. We strive to establish a dialogue between Stepanakert and Baku."

According to him, everyone thinks that it is an important factor on the way to finding solutions.

"The Lachin Corridor should be open, and the road passing through Aghdam (Akna) should complement the Lachin Corridor," Klaar said.

Klaar's comments came after Azerbaijan raised the issue of sending supplies to Nagorno-Karabakh via Aghdam, over seven months into a complete blockade it has imposed on the people of Karabakh.
