Armenia says Yerevan, Baku to next discuss maps for border demarcationJanuary 16, 2024 - 15:38 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenian Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan has said that the Armenian and Azerbaijani border commissions will next discuss what maps will be used as a basis for the delimitation of the border between the countries, RFE/RL’s Armenian service reports. Grigoryan made the remarks on Monday, January 15 and revealed that the the next meeting of the commissions will take place at the end of the month. Grigoryan said, however, that the exact date and location will be provided at a later time. Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said earlier that Baku categorically rejects Yerevan’s proposal that the delimitation of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border should be carried out on the basis of maps from 1975. Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan said in late December that the peace treaty should contain a concrete mechanism for delimiting the Armenian-Azerbaijani border such as Soviet military maps printed in the 1970s. Back then, his Azerbaijani counterpart insisted on delinking the border issue from the treaty. He also said that the signing of the treaty depends on the “political will” of the Armenian side.
