Azerbaijan, Georgia to sign Cooperation Memorandum on transport corridor

PanARMENIAN.Net - Azerbaijan and Georgia plan to sign a memorandum of cooperation in the transport corridor sector, with a focus on developing the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway. Investments have increased its capacity from 1 million to 5 million tons annually.

Azerbaijan’s Prime Minister Ali Asadov announced the initiative during the 10th session of the countries’ intergovernmental economic cooperation commission, APA reports.

"The Baku International Trade Port, one of the largest in the Caspian Sea, plays a pivotal role in the Middle Corridor. Efforts are underway to expand its capacity from 15 million to 25 million tons. Georgia’s ports of Poti and Batumi are also crucial players in this corridor. We are glad that a memorandum on cooperation in the transport corridor sector will be signed today, reinforcing Azerbaijan and Georgia as key transit hubs for international trade," Asadov stated.
