Lebanon's President praises Armenian community's role

PanARMENIAN.Net - Lebanon's newly elected president, Joseph Aoun, stressed the importance of the Armenian community's active participation in the formation of the new government and the country’s recovery process during a meeting with Catholicos Aram I of the Great House of Cilicia.

In his remarks, Aram I highlighted that Aoun’s election marks the beginning of a new chapter in Lebanon’s history, according to the press office of the Catholicosate.

Aram I also presented the internal and diocesan structures of the Catholicosate of the Great House of Cilicia.

“During these challenging times for Lebanon, the president’s efforts should be seen as a mission directed toward the salvation of the nation,” said Aram I.

At the end of the meeting, Aram I and Hakob Bagratuni, a member of Lebanon's Parliament and leader of the ARF (Armenian Revolutionary Federation), held a private conversation with the president regarding the composition of the new government.

Beirut’s first Armenian church, St. Nishan, was built in 1851. Currently, there are 8 Armenian Apostolic, 4 Catholic, and 4 Evangelical churches in Lebanon, each with affiliated Sunday schools. The first Armenian school was established in 1859, and as of 2003, there are approximately 25 schools, vocational institutes, and higher educational institutions operating in Lebanon.
