Ararat Mirzoyan: EU membership initiative proposed by civil society

PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan highlighted that the draft law initiating Armenia’s integration process into the European Union originates solely from civil society and not state institutions.

“The draft law is a public document. You can review it if you haven’t already: it contains no references to timelines or specific mechanisms. I want to remind everyone that this is a civil society initiative. Organizations gathered the required 50,000 signatures, as stipulated by Armenia’s constitution. Now, this initiative has automatically turned into a draft law and will be put to a parliamentary vote,” Mirzoyan stated during a press conference in Moscow alongside Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, RIA Novosti reports

Mirzoyan noted that the Armenian government has approved the draft law, and it is highly likely that the ruling parliamentary coalition will vote in its favor. However, further steps remain undetermined.

“This is all there is regarding the draft law for now. What happens next will be decided later. The draft law does not imply anything beyond this,” the minister added.
