MP proposes tax waiver for vehicles left in Artsakh

PanARMENIAN.Net - Armen Khachatryan, an MP from the Civil Contract faction, stated in Parliament that owners of vehicles left in territories occupied by Azerbaijan should not be required to pay property tax. He proposed adding a new provision to the property tax law.

“During the forced displacement from Nagorno Karabakh, many Armenian citizens’ vehicles were left behind. However, these individuals are still required to pay property tax here, facing various difficulties. When citizens fail to pay, legal proceedings begin. Although they can prove that they neither own nor use the vehicles, leading to tax exemptions, this is a complex and lengthy process that many cannot access,” said Khachatryan, according to Pastinfo.

A legislative amendment currently under discussion in Parliament proposes to exempt vehicle owners from property tax when their vehicles are lost due to criminal acts. This exemption would take effect from the initiation of criminal proceedings and remain in place until the vehicle is returned to the owner’s possession.

Under the draft law, vehicle registration in such cases would be suspended, and property tax collection would be halted for up to one year. This period could be extended for another year if evidence shows that the vehicle remains out of the owner’s possession.
