Simonyan: Armenia values allies' support amid expansionism

PanARMENIAN.Net - Speaker of the National Assembly Alen Simonyan, during a panel discussion in Yerevan with speakers and deputy speakers of parliaments from the Nordic-Baltic Format, stated that despite the numerous security threats Armenia has faced in recent years, the country remains committed to advancing its European integration process.

He emphasized that Armenia deeply values the support of its friends during this era of expansionist ambitions.

“The peace treaty has not yet been signed. Most of the articles under discussion have been agreed upon. We have proposed mutually acceptable solutions to the Azerbaijani side, which would not only facilitate the signing of the document and progress but also provide fundamental and comprehensive answers to existing issues. Unfortunately, as of now, the Armenian side has received no response,” he said.

Simonyan noted that geopolitical developments, including the war in Ukraine, serve as a serious warning that democracy is under significant threat worldwide.

“In this regard, I firmly believe that the unified defense of universal human values, as well as active efforts to establish lasting peace and stability globally, are the best means to counter threats and challenges.

I am pleased to note that the deployment of the European Union’s monitoring mission has had a positive impact on ensuring security, especially given the hostile rhetoric we are witnessing.

On the path to peace, it is crucial to address all humanitarian issues, with the urgent and safe return of Armenian prisoners being a top priority,” Simonyan concluded.
