Brussels approves extension of EU mission in Armenia

PanARMENIAN.Net - The European Council has approved the extension of the EU monitoring mission's mandate in Armenia until February 19, 2027, Armenpress reports.

The mission plays a key role in promoting stability in Armenia's border regions and fostering trust on the ground.

On January 29, EU member state ambassadors in Brussels approved the decision to extend the mission’s operations in Armenia for another two years.

The mission’s composition and personnel will remain unchanged, consisting of 165 international and 44 Armenian staff members. Its activities cover the entire length of the Armenia-Azerbaijan border, including the Nakhijevan sector.

The EU observer mission was deployed to Armenia in 2023. It conducts continuous monitoring and reports on security developments to improve civilian safety in conflict-affected areas and build confidence on the ground. For security and operational efficiency, the mission coordinates all activities with Armenian authorities and notifies Azerbaijan before deploying patrol teams.
