MP: any cargo transit through Armenia to be monitored![]() February 13, 2025 - 15:37 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Ruling party MP Artur Hovhannisyan, responding to a question at a parliamentary briefing about whether Azerbaijani cargo would be inspected if communication routes were opened, stated that Armenia's competent authorities must be informed about the contents of any cargo passing through the country. Addressing the same issue, ruling party MP Arman Yeghoyan also emphasized that "any cargo passing through Armenia must be subject to some level of control." "As for what technical means will be used by Armenia’s competent authorities and which body will oversee this process—these issues are currently under discussion. These technical matters are on the negotiation table," Hovhannisyan said, as reported by Aysor.am . When asked whether Azerbaijani cargo would be subject to inspection by Armenian customs officers, Hovhannisyan responded that negotiations were ongoing. "I do not consider it appropriate to answer this question at the moment, as negotiations are still underway," he said. On January 31, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated at a press conference that Armenia had made clear proposals to Azerbaijan regarding the unblocking of regional transport routes and was awaiting a response. According to him, the most cost-effective and realistic option is the Meghri railway connecting Azerbaijan to Nakhichevan and vice versa. He also proposed a railway link from Yeraskh through Nakhichevan to Meghri and in the opposite direction. ![]() ![]() Grigoryan added that the situation around the world and particularly in the region is very difficult.
