Armenia, Azerbaijan hold online border commission meeting

PanARMENIAN.Net - On February 14, a virtual meeting was held between the Armenian and Azerbaijani commissions on border demarcation and security, chaired by Armenia’s Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan and Azerbaijan’s Deputy Prime Minister Shahin Mustafayev.

During the meeting, the sides reviewed draft guidelines necessary for comprehensive border demarcation efforts and exchanged views on organizing the next in-person commission meeting, Armenian Foreign Ministry’s press office reported.

The parties agreed to coordinate the date and location of the next meeting through working discussions.

The previous meeting took place on January 16, during which the sides agreed to start comprehensive border demarcation from the northern section, beginning at the Armenia-Azerbaijan-Georgia tripoint and moving southward to the Armenia-Azerbaijan-Iran border.

The commissions also discussed draft guidelines outlining the procedures for border demarcation.

In 2024, Armenia and Azerbaijan demarcated approximately 12 kilometers of the border in the Tavush and Gazakh regions. As part of this process, Armenia handed over four villages previously inhabited by Azerbaijanis. At the time, Armenia’s Prime Minister described the demarcation as a pilot project conducted before the commissions had finalized their regulations.
