Rubio, Fidan discuss joint efforts for peace in South Caucasus

PanARMENIAN.Net - U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio held a bilateral meeting with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference, where they discussed the situation in the South Caucasus.

Among other topics, they addressed "joint efforts to support a just and lasting peace in the South Caucasus," Voice of America reports.

According to a statement by U.S. State Department spokesperson Temi Bruce, the two officials also explored ways to strengthen U.S.-Turkey relations, common regional interests, and the increasing bilateral trade between the two nations.

"Secretary Rubio emphasized the need for close cooperation in supporting a stable and unified Syria that does not pose a threat to the U.S., Turkey, or the region. He also highlighted Turkey's leadership in the global coalition against ISIS and the shared goal of ending Russia's war against Ukraine," the statement read.

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan is also attending the Munich Security Conference.
