Demonstrators claim that Ocalan’s conviction is baseless and urge the international community to address Turkey’s policies toward Kurds. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has stated that Turkey has the means to eliminate terrorism. Revolutionary and political figure Abdullah Ocalan, founder and former leader of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), has been serving a life sentence since 1999. The Armenian Defense Ministry has denied Azerbaijan's accusations of violating the ceasefire.
