Peskov: Putin ready for talks with Zelensky if necessary![]() February 18, 2025 - 15:56 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Russian President Vladimir Putin is ready to participate in negotiations on resolving the conflict in Ukraine with President Volodymyr Zelensky if necessary. This was announced by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov during a briefing. He reminded journalists that Putin has repeatedly expressed his willingness to hold talks with Ukraine’s current leadership, Gazeta.ru reports. "At the same time, the legal formalization of agreements requires serious discussion, given the reality that Zelensky’s legitimacy can be challenged. Putin has repeatedly made statements on this matter," Peskov said. Moscow does not recognize Volodymyr Zelensky as Ukraine’s legitimate president, as his term officially ended in May 2024. The Ukrainian authorities refused to hold elections, citing the ongoing martial law. On February 18, talks between Russian and U.S. representatives on Ukraine began in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia. The discussions focus on potential contacts regarding conflict resolution and the possible organization of a meeting between Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump. Earlier, Zelensky stated that Kyiv would not participate in U.S.-Russia negotiations, even if asked to do so. Photo.
