Armenia plans to open honorary consulate in Santo Domingo

PanARMENIAN.Net - Vice President of Armenia’s National Assembly Hakob Arshakyan presented a visa-free agreement draft to the newly appointed Ambassador of the Dominican Republic, Alejandro Arias Zarzuela, during their meeting in Moscow.

Arshakyan congratulated the ambassador on his appointment, expressing confidence that his experience would contribute to strengthening relations between Armenia and the Dominican Republic.

"Armenia is interested in developing friendly and mutually beneficial cooperation with the Dominican Republic. This is why the Armenian ambassador to Canada has also been accredited in the Dominican Republic since 2021," Arshakyan emphasized.

He highlighted the opening of the Dominican diplomatic mission in Yerevan in 2022 as a significant step in fostering bilateral ties. Armenia also plans to open an honorary consulate in Santo Domingo.

Arshakyan pointed out that in the 17 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries, there have been no high-level visits. In this regard, he noted that interparliamentary cooperation is becoming increasingly important each year.

The vice speaker also emphasized the need to enhance collaboration in education, tourism, and trade.

Ambassador Alejandro Arias Zarzuela thanked Arshakyan for the meeting and stressed the importance of strengthening interparliamentary ties. Both sides expressed readiness to take steps toward forming parliamentary friendship groups. The ambassador noted that despite the significant geographical distance between Armenia and the Dominican Republic, there is substantial potential for cooperation in various sectors.
