Minister: Armenia's new constitution to be finalized before 2026 polls

PanARMENIAN.Net - Justice Minister Srbuhi Galyan announced that Armenia's new Constitution will be finalized before the 2026 elections. She emphasized that the constitutional reform process is ongoing, with a dedicated council having developed the concept, and efforts are now focused on drafting the new text. This initiative aims to strengthen democracy and the rule of law through reforms in four key areas.

Galyan highlighted that the new constitution will emphasize human rights, including socio-economic rights, and will contain provisions regarding the governance system, the roles and functions of various state bodies, and other regulations.

Earlier, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, presenting the "Real Armenia" ideology, stressed the importance of adopting a new constitution through a nationwide referendum. He noted that previous referendums lacked legitimacy in public perception and emphasized that the new constitution's primary goal is to transition from a "stateless nation's residual practices" to a "state-building people's practices" based on constitutional solidarity and democratic participation.
