Microchip opens new office in Yerevan![]() March 3, 2025 - 17:25 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Microchip Technology has opened a new office in Yerevan, Armenia, at 4 Adonts Street. The inauguration was attended by Armenia's Minister of High-Tech Industry, Mkhitar Hayrapetyan; Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Union of Advanced Technology Enterprises (UATE), Sargis Karapetyan; and senior Microchip officials, including Shaqil Piran, Vice President of Marketing, Strategy, and Customer Applications for the FPGA business unit, and Rajeev Jarayaman, Senior Director of Software and Solutions Development for the same unit. Microchip representatives are in Armenia from March 1-4 to mark the start of a new investment phase and the opening of the new office. Key figures from Armenia's tech ecosystem, including co-founders of Instigate—who played a significant role in forming the local team in 2020, leading to its acquisition by Microchip in May 2023—also attended the event. Minister Hayrapetyan highlighted that major companies like Microchip establishing offices in Armenia indicate that the country's technological development policies are yielding desired results. He emphasized that such collaborations are mutually beneficial, creating new jobs and providing global market access for Armenia's industry, while allowing multinational companies to tap into new talent and expand their capabilities. Piran noted that through joint efforts, comfortable offices were opened not only in Yerevan but also in Gyumri, Vanadzor, and Ijevan. He expressed confidence that high-quality solutions, software, and algorithms of global significance would emerge from these offices, with the local team contributing to global innovation and raising awareness of Armenia's role in high-tech fields. Jarayaman recalled that 15 years ago, while working at a startup, he was advised to visit Armenia due to the quality of local specialists. This is his sixth visit to Armenia. Initially, they established a small company that grew to 60 employees. After joining Microchip, they decided to expand opportunities in Armenia by opening branches. The appeal of Armenia lies not only in the availability of talent and quality but also in cultural and mindset aspects. The presence of a strong local educational system has fostered the growth of skilled professionals, enabling the opening of offices not only in Yerevan but also in other regions, which they plan to develop further with a robust team. Karapetyan emphasized that all participants in this ecosystem play an extremely important role. The establishment of offices in Armenia by foreign companies brings knowledge and new standards, which later lead to the creation of new startups, thereby playing a significant role in developing infrastructure. He noted that Microchip's involvement is crucial in this professional field, as it helps uncover new talents and demonstrates that Armenian engineers and programmers can solve global-level problems and provide value not only to the local population but also to the international community. ![]() ![]() Yerevan will host the 2024 edition of the World Congress On Information Technology (WCIT).
