Nicolas Aznavour calls to support Ruben Vardanyan

PanARMENIAN.Net - Co-founder and chairman of the board of trustees of the Aznavour Foundation, Nicolas Aznavour, addressed the hunger strike of former Artsakh State Minister Ruben Vardanyan, emphasizing that it is now Armenians’ turn to support him.

He urged Armenians to show the world that Armenians never abandon those who stood by them.

"Today, I want to address an extremely urgent issue. Ruben Vardanyan, a man who has dedicated his life to Armenia, its people, and its future, has been unjustly imprisoned in Azerbaijan for over 500 days. A few days ago, he declared a hunger strike. His willpower on the path to justice is unshakable, but his health and life are too valuable to be put at such risk.

Ruben has always stood by Armenia—with his humanitarian efforts, his initiatives, and his vision for a stronger, united future. From educational and social programs to community reconstruction and economic development, the impact of his efforts is visible in Armenia and beyond. Everything he has done has been for the benefit of all Armenians, for our dignity, our rights, and our aspiration to live in peace.

Now, it is our turn to support Ruben. We must urge him to end his hunger strike and allow us, Armenians around the world, to help him carry this burden," the statement reads.

Aznavour added that Armenians must raise their voices, organize awareness campaigns, demand action, and ensure that Ruben Vardanyan’s selfless dedication does not come at the cost of his health or life.

"Let’s unite. Let’s speak up. Let’s ensure that Ruben’s struggle does not go unnoticed. Share his story, demand justice, and show the world that Armenians never abandon those who stood by them. Ruben, my dear friend, we need you strong and standing with us. Please, stop the hunger strike. Let’s continue this fight for justice together," wrote Nicolas Aznavour.

Ruben Vardanyan’s health deteriorated during a court hearing in Baku due to his hunger strike, and he refused to testify or answer questions. His lawyer, Jared Genser, urged Azerbaijani authorities to allow international doctors to examine him, provide immediate medical assistance, and monitor his condition. He also called for postponing the trial until the hunger strike ends.

The lawyer urged world leaders, including Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, to condemn this judicial process as politically motivated and illegal.
