PM: EU monitors to leave, intl claims withdrawn after treaty signed

PanARMENIAN.Net - Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, addressing the agreement on the final two points of the peace treaty, stated that EU monitors will leave, and international claims will be withdrawn once the document is signed, as reported by Factor.am.

He noted that an understanding has already been reached on the previously unresolved points.

"One of the articles concerns the non-deployment of third-country forces along the border, while the other relates to the mutual withdrawal of legal claims and refraining from actions against each other. I also want to share the mechanics behind our decision-making. We have been making bilateral proposals regarding these two provisions for a long time. Over time, they evolved slightly, and when it became clear that achieving ideal formulations was not feasible, we discussed them in the Security Council format. We concluded that the current wording represents a compromise that could be acceptable to Armenia.

If an agreement has been reached, it means that the Azerbaijani side considers the text beneficial to them, and Armenia has also decided that it serves its interests. As I have said before, these are the compromises we have spoken about publicly," the Prime Minister stated.

The Armenian Foreign Ministry announced that it has accepted Azerbaijan's proposals regarding the two unresolved articles, confirming that the peace treaty is ready for signing. Armenia is prepared to hold consultations on the timing and location of the signing.

The draft peace treaty consists of 17 articles, with 15 previously agreed upon. One of the unresolved provisions was the mutual renunciation of international claims, while the other involved the non-deployment of representatives from third countries along the Armenia-Azerbaijan border.
