Azerbaijan avoids signing peace deals, expert says

PanARMENIAN.Net - Azerbaijan has no intention of signing a peace agreement, much like it avoided signing the 2023 Granada document, says historian and turkologist Varuzhan Geghamyan.

Geghamyan noted that the term "peace treaty" has been replaced with "peace agreement" at Azerbaijan’s insistence. However, he stressed that this change is insignificant since Azerbaijan will not sign the document in any case, as reported by Aysor.am .

"The Armenian de facto Prime Minister needs a signed document to claim he brought peace, even if it proves insufficient to stop Azerbaijan," Geghamyan stated.

According to him, the only way to restrain Azerbaijan is through a well-organized, resilient, and continuously developing state.

"Azerbaijan can only be deterred by a structured and progressive Armenia, which is impossible under the current ruling group," he added.

On March 13, Armenia’s Foreign Ministry announced it had accepted Azerbaijan’s proposals on two disputed articles, declaring the peace agreement ready for signing. Armenia expressed readiness to discuss the timing and location of the signing. However, Baku introduced new preconditions, stating it was premature to set a meeting date.
