Netherlands urges progress on Armenia-Azerbaijan peace deal

PanARMENIAN.Net - Netherlands' Minister of Foreign Affairs, Kaspar Veldkamp, announced on X that after his visit to Armenia, he held a phone conversation with Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister, Jeyhun Bayramov.

Veldkamp emphasized the importance of further steps toward signing the Armenia-Azerbaijan peace agreement, as reported by Armenpress.

"I welcomed the agreement on the text of the Armenia-Azerbaijan peace treaty and stressed the significance of further steps toward its signing. This agreement is crucial for ensuring lasting peace and stability in the region," he stated.

On March 13, Armenia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that it had accepted Azerbaijan's proposals on the two previously unresolved articles, making the peace agreement ready for signing. Armenia expressed readiness to begin consultations on the timing and venue for signing. However, Baku introduced new preconditions and stated that it was too early to discuss a meeting date.

The draft peace agreement consists of 17 points, with 15 previously agreed upon. One of the unresolved provisions concerned mutual renunciation of international claims, while the other involved the deployment of foreign representatives along the Armenia-Azerbaijan border.
