Russia voices concern over Armenia-Azerbaijan border tensions

PanARMENIAN.Net - Russia has expressed concern over recent reports of growing tensions along the Armenia-Azerbaijan border.

During a briefing, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova stated, "It cannot fail to cause concern that, against the backdrop of progress and news about the completion of coordination of a peace agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia, there has unfortunately been a rise in reports of increased tension on the border between the two countries."

Zakharova emphasized that Russia urges both sides to show restraint and avoid any actions that could lead to escalation. She also addressed Armenia’s decision to suspend its participation in the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), noting that the move does not contribute to the country's security. According to her, "At the same time, it is Yerevan itself that has frozen its membership in the CSTO, which clearly does not contribute to strengthening Armenia’s security," Zakharova said. "Let me tell you, as a thrifty housekeeper, that defrosting takes time."

She underlined that Moscow continues to uphold all of its commitments to Armenia under the CSTO framework: "They are all in force, everyone knows that perfectly well."

Since March 16, Azerbaijan has repeatedly accused the Armenian side of violating the ceasefire. Armenia’s Ministry of Defense has denied these allegations, reiterating its earlier proposal to establish a joint investigative commission. Azerbaijan has not yet responded to this initiative.
