Pope hopes Armenia-Azerbaijan peace deal signed soon

PanARMENIAN.Net - Pope Francis has made his first public appearance after being discharged from hospital following a prolonged illness.

During his Sunday Angelus address, the Pope expressed satisfaction with the reported agreement on the final version of a peace treaty between Armenia and Azerbaijan, according to Vatican News.

“I am glad that Armenia and Azerbaijan have reached an agreement on the final form of the peace treaty. I hope it will be signed as soon as possible and will help establish lasting peace in the South Caucasus,” Pope Francis said.

He also extended condolences to victims of the bombings in Gaza, thanked the medical community, and expressed gratitude for the prayers he received during his illness.

The 88-year-old pontiff had been hospitalized for five weeks due to pneumonia and related complications. Doctors have stated he no longer needs inpatient care, though he is expected to rest for about two more months.
