RA Ombudsman meets Human Rights Watch official in Geneva

PanARMENIAN.Net - The Human Rights Defender of Armenia, Anahit Manasyan, continues her working visit to Geneva. On March 25, she met with Lucy McKernan, Deputy Director for United Nations Affairs at the Geneva office of Human Rights Watch. The meeting addressed several issues related to the protection of human rights.

Manasyan particularly emphasized the troubling nature of the processes involving arbitrarily detained ethnic Armenians in Azerbaijan, underlining the urgency of their immediate release from a human rights perspective.

“We also discussed matters concerning the expansion of cooperation in the field of protection and promotion of human rights,” the statement noted.

U.S. National Security Advisor Mike Waltz stated he had urged Azerbaijan’s Hikmet Hajiyev to release detainees and finalize a peace treaty with Armenia.

Jared Genser, attorney for Ruben Vardanyan, called on Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan to closely examine the statements by former U.S. President Donald Trump and National Security Advisor Mike Waltz.
