Historian: Karabakh Movement end signals Armenian statehood dissolution

PanARMENIAN.Net - The announcement that the Karabakh Movement should not continue, made by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, marks the start of the final countdown to the dissolution of Armenian statehood, according to historian Hayk Demoyan.

Reacting to Pashinyan’s statement in the National Assembly, Demoyan wrote on Facebook that the real goal of rejecting the Karabakh Movement is to avoid admitting that the movement has been dismantled through the government’s actions, turning it into a question of Armenia’s very existence.

“Karabakh has already been handed over, yet they say the movement should not continue,” Demoyan emphasized.

He warned that the next logical step in this line of thought could be: “I believe the Republic of Armenia, as an independent international entity, has proven itself unviable; therefore, we must dissolve into a stronger state formation.” He also recalled the earlier narrative about Armenia lacking a cadastral certificate—how it started, how it progressed, and what results it led to.

“I repeat: with the declared end of the Artsakh Movement, the countdown to the final stage of dissolving Armenian statehood has been officially launched,” Demoyan concluded.

Earlier, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated in parliament: “Without embellishment, I want to clearly and unequivocally say that I believe we must not continue the Karabakh Movement. This is the official position of Armenia. If the Armenian people disagree with this, I will cease to be Prime Minister.”

He added, “We also want to be sure that Azerbaijan does not make a political decision to start another movement, for instance, a ‘Western Azerbaijan’ movement, turning this story into an export of conflict logic from Azerbaijani to Armenian territory instead of establishing peace.”
